The Silver Linings in Romans 8:28

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” — King James Bible

Good Days and Bad

Whether you’re a new believer or a mature one, good days and bad days come along. There’s no getting around it. Life is full of twists and turns, and the sharper the turns the more we appreciate Paul’s writings to the Romans.

“All things…” That’s quite a blanket approach to covering everything going on yesterday, today and tomorrow.

But we pray this Scripture lifts you up and helps in time of need.

Believer Perspective + Application

Early walk

For the new believer, it’s sometimes hard to believe ALL things work for the good of the believer. Yes, there will be bumps in the road. But it’s important to understand God isn’t a “Sugar Daddy” who’ll instantly pull us out of jail/poverty/trouble. But He does use unfortunate events to grab our attention and sharpen our focus on Him.

Advanced walk

Hard to believe things can go wrong after this many years of faithful service, right? But that’s the way God works: He’ll be finishing and trying and polishing our character all the days of our lives. Good things will happen. Bad things, too. Job’s life was a stunning example of a faithful man subjected to ginormous tribulation.

Application

See the good in it. Grab ahold of the silver lining. When it doesn’t make sense at all, such as in a tragedy, then hold on to that promise of God found in Philippians 4:7 – “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Additional Scripture Resources

Paul wrote confidently about God’s Providence in the life of the believer, and how we should govern our thoughts:

Philippians 4:11 – “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”

Romans 5:3-4 – “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:”
